AMA PUBLISHES TELEMEDICINE QUICK GUIDE

The advent of COVID-19 has led to widespread use of telehealth services to treat patients rather than to risk their contracting the disease through in-person visits. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has relaxed privacy rules and expanded payment guidelines to facilitate the use of telehealth services and most commercial payers have likewise implemented new payment policies.

To assist physicians in navigating one aspect of telehealth services, the American Medical Association has published on-line its Telemedicine Quick Guide. The first three steps in the Guide are for physicians to (1) set up a telemedicine team; (2) check with their malpractice carriers; and (3) familiarize themselves with payers’ payment and policy guidelines. More information and additional resources are provided in the AMA’s Telemedicine Quick Guide, which is linked here.
