HUMANA IN DISCUSSIONS TO BUY PRIMARY CARE NETWORK

Bloomberg has reported that Humana is in discussions with Sarasota, Florida-based MaxHealth to purchase its primary care network. In a February 11, 2026 earnings call, Humana’s President and CEO Jim Rechtin confirmed that “we also hope to soon announce a strategic acquisition in the primary care space.”

MaxHealth is a primary care platform focused on providing integrated care to adults and senior patients in Florida. According to its website, its network includes more than 100 primary care providers and more than 30 specialists working in more than 55 owned clinics and 30 affiliated clinics and that it serves over 70,000 value-based patients. MaxHealth is currently owned by a private equity firm.

In 2025 Humana acquired The Villages Health, which has more than 70 physicians providing primary and specialty care in ten locations in The Villages, a Florida retirement community.

Other health insurers have likewise sought to acquire physician practices and primary care providers. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the nation’s physicians are employed or affiliated with UnitedHealth Group subsidiary Optum.  In addition, CVS Health, which owns Aetna, has opened clinics in many of its pharmacy locations.
